Ford reminds us of a US car because of the possibility of a fuel pump breakdown

NEW YORK (AP) – Ford is recalling more than 850,000 cars across the US as low-pressure fuel pumps inside the vehicle could break down.

The recall covers a wide range of Ford and Lincoln branded vehicles created during the recent model era. This includes documents that certain Ford Broncos, Explorer, F-150, and Lincoln aviators and navigators were published this week by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration note.

Ford will send a letter of notification to affected owners starting this Monday (July 14th) to warn of safety risks associated with potential fuel pump failures. However, the remedy is still “in development,” the NHTSA recall report states.

It was not immediately clear whether there would be an estimate as to when the revision would be available. However, this week’s recall report noted that the owner will receive additional letters with instructions to take the car to the authorized dealer for that service when the time comes, and that there is no charge.

The Associated Press contacted Ford on Thursday for further comment.

The Michigan-based automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the recall, according to this week’s report. However, owners should be aware of potential warnings. Before a fuel pump failure, customers may encounter a decline in engine performance, such as a check engine light or engine power.

Fuel pump failures are “highly likely to occur” during warmer climates, or if the tanks contain little fuel, the recall report says. Also, the loss of fuel pressure and flow, among other factors, can be caused by internal contamination of the car’s jet pump. Ford also identified changes to its suppliers during its manufacturing process review, the report added.

Ford estimates that 10% of the 850,318 vehicles recalls in the US are at risk for this fuel pump. The recall covers certain Ford Broncos, explorers and Lincoln astronauts, in addition to the 2021-2023 model year F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD and F-550 SD vehicles between the 2021-2023 model year. The 2021-2022 Lincoln Navigators, Ford Mustang and F-150, will also be affected, as well as the 2022 expedition.
