TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – As advances in artificial intelligence accelerate, cybersecurity experts are warning that security measures are behind the AI spoofing by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“It was only a matter of time before someone actually tried to take this step,” said John Reichart, an associate professor at Bellini University of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing at the University of South Florida. “I think this will be a wake-up call for many of these organizations.”
Marco Rubio pretended to be an AI Imposter
The US Department of State sent warnings to foreign diplomats after the discovery of the AI impersonation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The impersonator tried to reach out to at least three foreign ministers, the US Senator and the governor.
Department spokesman Tammy Bruce answered questions from reporters at a media briefing Tuesday.
“Of course, the State Department is aware of this incident and is currently monitoring and dealing with the issue,” Bruce said. “For security reasons, there are no details to offer at this time.”
News Channel 8 asked LiCato about the difficulties surrounding impersonating the top government officials.
“If you have someone’s sample, you only need about 60 seconds and you can find enough patterns so that the AI can reproduce the sound,” Licato said.
Recalt adds the best way to protect yourself from potential AI spoofing. Creating a password between close friends and family.
“If your grandson calls and they say, ‘I’m in trouble, I need money, right?” you say to them, “I’m fine, what’s your password? Recautiously explained.
Experts say that in addition to the misdissemination of information, spoofing generated on AI also poses potential national security risks.
“The security you need to enter must catch up as quickly as technology is catching up,” said Paul Wiegertner, retired from the manager’s FBI agent. “The meaning is horrifying. If you look at it in the context of national security, you can impersonate the public and order something to bombard it.”
