You can’t really get mad while waiting at Sea World Orlando for the “Baby Shark Mini Live Show.” You asked for this.
There are many strollers. Wandering children fall into the bushes. No preschool children will watch while they watch moms or while they are filming them over and over again.
To be clear, it went viral with ear bug songs and dances 10 years ago, not the show’s newborn, real live shows, swimming sharks.
Demand remains. On the first day, 45 minutes before Showtime, a line of young families spread out from the Seaport Theater to the pearl diving tanks.
More evidence: The “Baby Shark Dance” video is the most watched YouTube entry to date, with over 16 billion views. (In the second place, it’s Despacito by Louis Fonsi, featuring 8.7 billion papa yankees.)
This is what you need to know before you go. (Pro tip: There’s no need to break the lyrics.)
The flooded song
Not only that, but it’s not as extensive as you would expect. The show will have half a dozen songs, including those tailored to SeaWorld and its animal residents, along with the theme park conservation message.
Other Ditties are circling eels on the bus.
The existence of the stage
The cast consists of four costumed characters: Baby Shark, Dad Shark, Mom Shark and Pink Phong, as well as three human dancers/singers who encourage crowd participation.
As sharks are not usually land dancers, the shark family costume includes a curved tail in front and then (human) legs covered in a black leotard. They have quite a bit of freedom of movement. The choreography of everything is rather ambitious, and the difficulty increases as the show continues.
As an adult, it was fun/fun watching a shark family bring their bulky outfits back into the offstage area.
The stage also features additional animated creatures and a screen to interact with the live crew.
Children’s play
The audience is Young. Given the circumstances, they were reasonably involved. They ran across the stage for a section along the dance near the edge.
Children are encouraged to participate. For a while I thought they might say they would “make noises,” but the cooler head won.
The show is over 20 minutes, and attention is longer than expected. There are some fake endings. It wasn’t even when the song said, “That’s the end, it’s the dodo do do do do do do do do.”
Caution
“Baby Shark Mini Live Show” could be a very special after-school special.
The BS floats into the ocean and then slowly from the stage. He has good reasons, including his desire to have fun and make friends. He goes with the orange fish. What’s not going well?
There is mild parental panic, especially after the octopus is involved, but it is not so traumatic for the audience. (Spoiler: Daddy Shark saves that day.)
In theory, members of a young audience learn to not wander.
When and where
The baby shark show is located at the Seaport Theater in the park. Times vary each day, so check out the SeaWorld Orlando app or website. (It may take only once or twice a day.) It shares a space with Rescue Tails, a series of animal success stories.
According to the SeaWorld website, the show will remain until September 2nd, with character encounters and gifts starting in August.
