TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – More than 100 new laws signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis will come into effect on July 1st.
Among the notable changes are statewide bans and strict penalties of fluorination that could send speeders to prisons on first attempts.
Florida is the second state in the country to ban fluoride in tap water, after Utah.
“Forcing fluoride into water is not really good. There are risks associated with risks for pregnant women, young people and children. Yes, use fluoride on your teeth.
Florida surgeon general Dr. Joseph Radapop began promoting law last year. He says recent research suggests there are health risks associated with fluorination.
Fluorination is a long-standing practice aimed at preventing tooth decay. Some health experts are opposed to the end of the process. They believe basic dental care is particularly important in Florida, where it is not readily available in many communities.
“Because we invest in water fluorination per dollar, the community can easily save $38 in dental treatment costs, so there is a significant return on investment. That type of prevention approach is financially responsible.”
On the roads, new laws aim to speed excessively.
“One thing we can control is the number of people killed on the roads. So if it’s a deterrent, then if it saves one of our pages live, it’s worth it because God forbids it,” state Sen. Jason Pizzo said.
For those who have recklessly chosen to speed, the new law signed by Gov. Ron Desantis targets drivers who drive 50 miles at speed limits or drive more than 100 miles per hour.
For the first attack, you will be in prison for up to 30 days and fined up to $500. For repeated crimes, a maximum of $1,000 fine is in prison for up to 90 days.
“It’s a constitutional overload. It’s incredibly invasive. It’s going to clog the court system in ways no one can imagine,” Mike Gottley said. “The bill makes sense, kills speeding. We want to punish people more severely for speeding. It’s not well thought out, its enforcement and inaction, I urge you, we need to reconsider this, it’s not the next session. It’s not a good attitude. It’s not a great attitude.”
