American Airlines wants its customers to make their time at Miami International Airport more enjoyable. So, on Wednesday, Career announced plans to expand its VIP lounges for frequent travelers.
The plans include the construction of a new flagship lounge, the airline’s most fantastical airport amenities. Americans will also expand their current Admirals Club Lounge.
When the project opened, the airline said there would be almost twice the amount of lounge space at MIA.
“The lounge experience plays a key role in enhancing its travel journey, providing a quiet and comfortable rest from busy terminals,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, Vice President of MIA Operations in the United States, in a statement.
He described the future area as “new and improved spaces for relaxing, working and playing.”
This will be America’s sixth flagship lounge. In May, the airline announced its lounge at Terminal A West at Philadelphia International Airport.
Americans currently offer three VIP lounges at MIA. The Admiral’s Club Lounge is located at Gate D15. The flagship and Admiral Club lounge is located at D30. Under the new plan, the flagship lounge, which opened in 2017, will be converted into an expanded Admirals Club lounge.
Meanwhile, the new flagship lounge will be built from scratch. The space will serve champagne upon arrival, as well as local groceries and La Carte meals, the airline said. VIP members or day pass holders will get free food.
In recent years, airlines have invested heavily in frequent flyer lounges. In 2024, Delta Air Lines upgraded MIA’s VIP lounge. In March, Avianca and Tap Portugal announced the renovated space.
Americans did not provide timelines or provide details on whether the current lounge will be closed or if construction will begin. The airline also did not say where the new flagship lounge is in Mia.
The move comes as Americans run the biggest summer schedule ever from MIA. In June, the airline launched a non-stop service to Rome.
Americans have over 400 peak flights daily from MIA, serving over 30 million customers a year. The airline is also a massive source of work in the area, employing more than 14,500 people at Miami Airport.
