PANA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – After the RIP City Surf 07 Girls Club Soccer team scored seven goals, what began as a simple incentive quickly became a $600 nail salon tab, with manager Jonah Mond placing a bet.

“It was the second match of the tournament, so we had to win to win to lead,” said Hanna Bean, a Rising Senior. “Then we started winning, but we could have obviously done better, so he was trying to motivate us.”

Despite taking a 2-0 lead at halftime, Hammond said he knew his team wasn’t making its full potential.

“I didn’t think they were playing well at all. I thought the other teams had a chance to score. It felt like a close game,” Hammond said.

Originally, the incentives were simple. They win two more goals and the team wins a pizza party. On the other hand, failure meant extra fitness training. However, after the discussion, the girls made a counter offer.

“Two goals, pizza parties. Three goals, ice cream. Chickfill A for girls. And five goals, we all get a pedicure,” recalled Hammond. “I didn’t think there was a way that could happen. I saw them play in the first half.”

What happened next was unexpected.

The two-goal lead turned into a 7-0 shutout and a significant invoice.

“He calculated how much it would cost on the bench during the game and then he fell to the ground,” said North Bay Haven Rising senior Lauren Bishop. “He’s paying like 15 girls, so that’s going to be expensive.”

The nails were drawn and the lessons were learned.

“In $600, we’re here, if you’re a coach,” Hammond said.
