“I will work with you to see if we can reach a solution regarding Kashmir,” Trump said.
India and Pakistan were still supporting a ceasefire on May 11, following accusations that each side was blamed for initial military violations.
That ceasefire took place on May 10th after a continuous four-day attack between two adjacent nuclear forces. The worst battle between India and Pakistan in nearly 30 years led to the firing of missiles and drones on each other’s military targets, leading to almost 70 deaths.
The Trump administration is also engaged in direct talks with both countries to negotiate an end to the battle.
US diplomacy and pressure helped secure a ceasefire deal, but just hours after it happened, artillery fire was seen in Kashmir, India, where we saw much of last week’s battle.
Local governments have heard explosions from the Air Force defense system in cities near the border under the blackout. This was similar to what has been described in the last two days.
Pakistan responded by saying it was committed to a ceasefire and accused India of breaking it.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif spoke to his country late on Saturday evening, declaring “Victory” and cast India as an invader.
“They are so proud that they only did their best to attack our borders through drone attacks, through missiles, they took innocent lives. They destroyed the mosque,” he said. “They wanted to target all the places that were incredibly valuable to us, so we decided to retaliate in the same way.”
On Sunday, the Indian Army Chief Justice granted the Army commander “full authority” to engage in “countership in the territory of movement” over violations of understanding between the two countries, according to an Army statement.
President Donald Trump on Saturday praised the leaders of both countries for agreeing to stop fighting and offered to “substantially” increase trade between India and Pakistan.
Kashmir, located within the Himalayas, is fully claimed by both countries as it is controlled by Hindu majority India and the majority Muslim Pakistan, each of which controls part of it.
The two countries went to war twice, surpassing Kashmir’s control.
India has accused Pakistan of supporting Kashmir separatists who rebelled against parts of Indian territory. Pakistan had suggested that it would only provide moral, political and diplomatic support to fighters.
In response to Trump’s statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said, “A fair and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict must ensure the realization of the fundamental rights of the people of Kashmir, including the right to be self-determination.”
Despite the continued ceasefire, the Indian Air Force said at the midday X-Post that military operations would continue.
There was a shooting that was fired overnight in a Bimbard in Kashmir, Pakistan, but none of the victims, according to Pakistani officials.
