President Donald Trump expanded his plans to change the days of honoring America’s participation in the world wars of the last century by declaring them as national holidays.
“All over the world, our allies are celebrating our victory in World War II. The only country we don’t celebrate is the United States, and victory was only achieved for us,” he said.
“Without the US, the war would have been won by other countries.
“Therefore, I am here declaring the national holiday, celebrating the victory of World War I, where the truce was signed on November 11, 1918, and the victory of World War II, which was May 8, 1945.”
The president added that “there are too many holidays in America,” and that “we will not close the country due to these two very important holidays.”

Currently, November 11th is celebrated as Veterans Day, a federal holiday, but May 8th is not celebrated in the United States.
Trump’s announcement on Monday follows last Thursday when he renamed Veterans Day “World War I Victory Day” and said May 8, which coincides with the victory of Europe Day, was recognized as “World War II Victory Day.”
He said the initiative is part of Americans.
The victory on European Day, or at Vedei, marks the formal surrender to allies of German military forces on May 8, 1945, after nearly six years of conflict. VE Day is widely celebrated in Europe, but in the US it is not a federal holiday.
VE Day falls on the last Monday of May, the same month as Memorial Day, where Americans paused to mourn in honor of American servicemen who died in service.
