US stocks continued wild volatility, bouncing off sudden early losses to end the mix amid uncertainty about what President Donald Trump’s trade war would do to the economy.
The S&P 500 rose 0.1% on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to the seventh day. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.3%, while the Nasdaq composites slipped 0.1%.
The index started the day low after suggesting that the US economy could have contracted at the beginning of the year before most of Trump’s announced tariffs came into effect. The S&P 500 had fallen by 2.3%.
