Maryland legislators arrived in the country on April 16th.

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said he met on Thursday at El Salvador’s illegal immigrants, Kilmer Abrego Garcia and El Salvador, who were deported for what the Justice Department called administrative errors.

Van Hollen, who defends Abrego Garcia’s return to the United States, arrived in El Salvador on April 16th to meet Salvador’s Vice President Felix Ullore. Abrego Garcia is incarcerated at CECOT, the largest prison in the country.

Van Hollen, who recorded the trip in several posts on social media platform X, was unable to meet Abrego Garcia on April 16, but was later allowed to do so on April 17.

“I said the main goal of this trip was to meet Kilmer. I had that opportunity tonight,” Van Hollen said. post X. on social media platforms: “I called his wife Jennifer to share his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update on my return.”
in post In X, Salvador President Naive Buquere showed pictures of the meeting between Abrego Garcia and Van Hollen, rejecting the allegations that Abrego Garcia was being abused by El Salvador.

“Kilmer Abrego Garcia miraculously rises from “death camp” and “torture” and sipping a margarita with Senator Van Hollen in El Salvador’s tropical paradise! “Bukel wrote.

Abrego Garcia’s deportation to El Salvador has become a political flash of ongoing debate over Trump’s administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Democrats say Abrego Garcia’s deportation, despite his illegal status, violated the law and due process rights.

Abrego Garcia was living with his wife and children in Maryland when he was arrested. The administration says it has something to do with MS-13, a criminal gang designated by the US government as a foreign terrorist organization, denied by Abrego Garcia’s lawyers.

He was protected from deportation to El Salvador under a 2019 court order and found he would face a serious threat to his life and safety in his home country.

In previous court filings in a lawsuit challenging the removal of Abrego Garcia from the United States, the Trump administration has shown that deportation was a mistake.

“On March 15th, (immigration and customs enforcement agencies) were aware of protection from removal to El Salvador, but Abrego Garcia was removed to El Salvador due to administrative errors.”

On Thursday evening, the same day Van Hollen met with federal court of appeals Abrego Garcia. It’s blocked On April 16 of the Trump administration, he asked the court to reverse the ruling by a district judge.

Previous orders from US District Judge Paula Sinis required the government to promote Abrego Garcia’s return to the United States. The judge also ordered a prompt discovery to determine whether the administration complied with its promotion order. she It questioned the evidence that the government said it had linked Abrego Garcia to MS-13.

The Court of Appeal rejected the administration’s request, saying that Xinis’ order was an effort consistent with previous Supreme Court orders to direct the government to direct the government to bring about the return of Abrego Garcia.

On April 10, in response to the Supreme Court’s decision, Xinis issued an amended order that “directs Abrego Garcia’s return to the United States as soon as possible, in order to take all available measures to the accused.

The administration argued that the order violated the administrative department’s privileges over diplomacy.

“DHS does not have the authority to forcefully extract aliens from the domestic custody of foreign sovereign countries,” Joseph Mazzarra, acting advisor to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), told Xinis in a declaration on April 15.

He added that if Abrego Garcia is presented at the port of entry, “DHS will either detain him in the United States and take him to a third country or end withholding of removal for MS-13 membership.”

On April 16, Attorney General Pam Bondi posted a link to a document about Abrego Garcia on social media.

One said in a 2019 Prince George County Police Department report, “Officers contacted trustworthy sources with proven track record and advised Kilmer Armando Abrego Garcia was an active member of the MS-13, which has Western Creek.”

Sam Dorman contributed to this report.
