Terrorist Watchlist Illegal Immigrants received Medicaid, unemployment insurance: Doge

According to government efficiency, many of them also received student loans, tax refunds and food stamps.

According to the government’s Department of Efficiency (DOGE), numerous illegal immigrants with terrorist or criminal ties who entered the United States under the previous administration have received several government benefits.

“Under the Biden administration, it was routine for the Border Patrol to recognize aliens in the United States without legal status and minimal screening,” Doge said in an April 11 post on social media platform X.
According to a post republished by the White House, the Customs Border Patrol has previously identified “a subset of 6.3K individuals with a criminal history have been paroleed to the United States on the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center Watchlist.” With immigrant parole, illegal immigrants can live temporarily and work domestically without fear of being deported.

“These paroles ended immediately. Despite having no other legal status, aliens who have been parole can apply for work permits and receive a Social Security number,” the post states.

All 6,300 paroleed illegal immigrants with terrorism or criminal history had Social Security numbers, Doge said. Of these, 905 individuals collected Medicaid and received a total of $276,000 payments. He received 41 unemployment insurance and raised benefits worth $42,000.

Additionally, 22 people have earned federal student loans worth $280,000. 409 received $751,000 in tax refunds for just 2024. According to Doge, many were food stamp benefits recipients.

Doge’s report comes as the Trump administration cracked down on illegal immigrants and took various measures targeting people with terrorist ties.

On February 19, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to identify federal funding programs that provide financial aid to illegal immigrants. The order asked agencies to ensure that such funds granted to states and regions would not be used to “support sanctuary policies or to support illegal immigration.”

“This executive order ensures that President Trump uses taxpayer resources to protect the interests of American citizens, not illegal foreigners,” the White House fact sheet said.

This week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it would begin reviewing social media activities of immigration applicants with anti-Semitic content, including support for terrorist costumes such as Hamas, Hezbollah and Hoosis.
“The rest of the world’s terrorist sympathizers have no room for the US. We have no obligation to acknowledge them or stay here,” DHS Vice-General Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

She added that DHS secretary Christy Noem “who thinks he can come to America and hide behind the initial amendment to defend anti-Semitic violence and terrorism… is not welcome here.”

Targeting illegal immigrants

The issue of illegal immigration related to terrorism entering the United States has become a concern among lawmakers.

In August, the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security and Enforcement released a preliminary report revealing that “at least 99 terrorists” had been released to the United States from January 2021 under the Biden administration.

Between 2021 and 2023, Border Patrol at the Southwest Border said it had encountered illegal immigrants from 36 countries on the terrorist watchlist.

At least three illegal foreigners released to the US could have had connections with ISIS, the report said. They arrived at the entry point using the CBP One app and were processed by the US.

There was opposition to Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Last month, the Coalition of Humanitarian Immigration Rights, along with other immigration advocacy groups, sued several federal agencies and officials over stronger identification measures Trump was established on illegal immigration.

An executive order from the president called for the identification of illegal immigrants and registration with the federal government.

The DHS then said that illegal immigrants who do not register their identity with the federal government, obtain fingerprints, notify authorities when changing addresses, or who do not leave the country will face criminal penalties.

In the complaint, the Humanitarian Immigration Rights Coalition argued that DHS rules are changing the government’s approach to registration in a way that “causes confusion, fear and serious economic disruption.”

“The defendant will attempt to rush these drastic changes without any meaningful explanations about policy changes, without notices, public comments, or careful consideration calling for Congress to avoid these types of harm.”

This week, a federal judge sided with the government and allowed the Trump administration to enforce the requirement to identify illegal aliens. The plaintiff in this case “failed to demonstrate that he was about to file this lawsuit,” the ruling said.

Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) made 32,809 arrests in the first 50 days of Trump’s second term, according to DHS.

The arrests included 14,111 convicted offenders and pending charges claiming 9,980 people.
