On Friday morning, a small plane crashed and burned on the approach to Boca Raton Airport.
According to initial unconfirmed reports, at least three people could have been dead after the plane crashed just before the runway just after 10am, crashed into a car and thrust onto the railroad tracks near military trails and Glaze Road, said during Carl Richards said Boca Raton Fire Rescue. Richards said all trains will be held for now. The pilot status is still unknown.
The plane erupted into flames, blew away the huge smoke seen from Interstate 95. Fire rescue teams put out the fire, Richards said.
The military trail has been closed between Northwest 19th Avenue and Butts Road, while the Interstate 95 Overpass on Glaze Road is also closed on both eastbound and westbound, according to the Boca Raton Police Department.
Richards said the scene is still active and the city’s firefighter crew is working with the police department to determine details. We will also be looking into the National Transportation Safety Board.
“We are deeply saddened to see that a plane crash has occurred within today’s community. At this point, details are still emerging and we are working closely with emergency responders and authorities,” Mayor of Boca Raton Scott Singer said in a statement. “Our idea lies with all those affected by this tragic event. As the investigation continues, we seek patience and respect for the families involved.”
