The president provided Doge and Musk updates on Monday.
President Donald Trump said his advisor, Elon Musk, must eventually leave government efficiency (DOGE) and return to running his company.
The president told reporters at his elliptical office on Monday that the agency head will continue to work with Doji and will continue to carry out its mission even after Musk leaves.
“He wants to do it. I’m protecting him as long as I can keep him,” Trump said.
During an exchange with reporters in the oval office, Trump was asked if he could “keep up and running without Elon here” during the signing ceremony for an executive order calling for people reselling concert tickets to tighten penalties.
“Well, I can’t tell you that,” Trump replied. “This can be said that many of the people who work with Doge are secretaries and heads of various institutions and have learned a lot.”
The agency manager is now “dealing with the people of Doge,” and he has been “a huge education” from the organization, the president said.
“I think some of them might try to protect the dog with them, but you know, I think it’ll end at some point,” he added.
Mask is classified as a special civil servant, allowing him to skirt certain requirements and disclosure agreements that are mandatory if he is a federal employee. However, this classification means that he must resign from his position in 130 days. Musk pointed out in an interview last week.
“In the long run, I think Tesla Stock will work, so maybe it’s an opportunity to buy,” Musk said at an event in Wisconsin. “This is a very expensive job. That’s what I’m saying.”
