“He’s never asked me anything,” Trump said.
President Donald Trump said on March 26 that Elon Musk, whom he tapped to lead the government’s cost-cutting efforts, had never asked him for help in his business because he began counselling him last year.
While signing the executive order in his oval office on Wednesday, Trump told reporters he had not discussed masks and car tariffs, saying “he may have a conflict of interest.” The White House Advisor for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is the CEO of Tesla, a leading American electric vehicle manufacturer.
“So we don’t talk (about tariffs). I’ve never spoken to him,” Trump said. “He never asked me to benefit from the business. I’m actually a bit surprised by it. I might do that, I might not. I do the right thing and I want him to do the right thing.”
Tesla has faced significant hurdles in recent months. Protesters are citing recommendations that they destroy vehicles and dealers, burn chargers, and sometimes catalyze musk and clumsy recommendations, and tens of thousands of federal workers as catalysts. The company’s sales and stock value recently fell sharply amid allegedly boycotted boycotts, down 53% from its all-time high in December 2024.
While stock values have risen for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, while reducing a quarter of the lost value in the last three months, Tesla owners are on national alert as many have reported car raids.

“He didn’t ask me this. “Elon, I don’t like what’s going on with you. Tesla is a great company. I don’t like what’s going on,” Trump told reporters at the event.
While talking about musk in his oval office on Wednesday, Trump said he had revoked the Biden administration’s executive order that by 2030, which attempted to turn new car sales into electric or plug-in hybrids.
“Eron came and said, ‘Would you give me your favor for missions, electricity mandates, etc.?’ He never asked me anything,” Trump said.
