Approximately 90 Teslas targeted in attacks across Canada: police

Several attacks on Canada and the vehicle owner Tesla dealer have damaged nearly 90 vehicles, opening police investigations from Vancouver to Montreal.

Hamilton police are investigating after a Tesla dealer in Hamilton Mountain reported that many vehicles were damaged on March 19.
“The officers responded and found more than 80 Tesla vehicles parked outdoors, including but not limited to deep scratches and punctured tires,” a police news release said.

Police are considering footage from CCTV cameras to identify the suspect, the release said. Anyone with information will be asked to contact 905-546-3886 or Crime Stopper at 1-800-222-8477.

Attacks on Tesla vehicles and dealers have been rising in both Canada and the US, in response to the relationship between owners Elon Musk and President Donald Trump. Musk is considered one of Trump’s advisors.

Earlier in the week, the Vancouver International Auto Show said it had removed Tesla from this year’s security concerns event.

The decision came after so-called “Tesla Takedown” protests in several locations across Canada, including Ottawa and Vancouver. In one such protest in Surrey, the protesters held signs outside the Tesla dealership saying “Eron is courage” and “democracy dies of indifference.”

Dealer Graffiti

On March 21, Vancouver police announced charges against a 27-year-old Vancouver man after a Tesla dealer was destroyed.

Police said the incident occurred at a dealer near Ballard and West Fourth Avenue on March 21 at about 1:30 a.m.

A witness to a case called 911, said the man spray-painted indecent on the frontlines of his business, according to a news release from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

The nearby suspect will appear in court on May 15th.

The incident is one of eight mischiefs of the year, and is believed to be “politically motivated and against Tesla owner Elon Musk’s political affiliation with the US government.”

All files are still open and under investigation.

Two Teslas damaged in Calgary

In Calgary, police are investigating the damage in separate incidents where two Tesla vehicles are believed to be connected.

Police said the first incident occurred between 9:30pm and 11pm on March 18th.

Police say the Tesla owner parked a white 2023 Model Y at a charging station near his home in southeastern Calgary at 9:30pm.

The owner received a notification around 11pm and was notified that the vehicle was no longer billed. She saw the car on fire when she looked out the window, a police news release said.

The Calgary Fire Department answered her 911 call and put out the fire.

Police also responded, saying initial evidence showed that the fire was intentionally set up with accelerators.

Police are asking anyone with a vehicle parked at a charging station from 9pm to 11:30pm to check the vehicle’s camera system and contact police if they find video footage of the incident.

On March 19, Calgary Police responded to the second Tesla fire in a storage lot in southeastern Calgary at around 9:50pm.

According to the release, the grey 2025 Tesla CyberTruck is believed to have been intentionally on fire.

“We continue to investigate these Arsons targeting Tesla vehicles,” Sgt. Staff said. Kurt Jacobs of Calgary Police Service Arson & Robber Squad.

Police are urging Telsa owners parked in an insecure area to place their vehicle in Sentry mode, where they are involved in the car’s camera system, record suspicious activity and notify the owner.

Both arson investigations are underway.

London Survey

Police in London, Ontario are also investigating Tesla after it was damaged in the fire on March 17th.

According to a news release, emergency crew responded to a vehicle fire in the parking lot around 11:30pm.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but police said the 2025 4-door Black Tesla S maintained “significant damages” estimated at around $140,000.

No injuries have been reported.

Investigators are asking anyone with a dashcam video of the incident and home or business surveillance footage to contact police.
