Lily, who has over 280 credits to his name, passed away in her retirement home in California.

Actor and Hollywood stuntman Jack Lily, best known for his role in the television series “Little House of Prairie,” passed away at the age of 91.

His son, Clint Lilly, confirmed the news that he had passed away in a shared Instagram post after his father passed away on March 19th after retiring from the California Film and Television Fund.

“The guy who started it all. figuratively and literally. Card sharks, horse traders, wranglers, guys with all the stories, he always knew someone who could help if he couldn’t help,” read the post.

“Many people are known as friends, storytellers, Jokers and his favorite dad.”

The Lily family noted that it will be announced at a later date, along with the funeral and celebration of life.

“Your laughter and spark in your eyes when you see your loved one being with us forever,” the Post continued. “Thank you for reaching out to all my family and friends.”

Meanwhile, tributes have begun to pour out across social media, including Melissa Gilbert, a co-star in “Prairie on the Prairie on the Prairie on the Prairie,” which celebrated his life, legacy and talent.

“The family in small house lost one of our own,” she wrote on Instagram.

“He happened to be one of my favorite people on earth. … Jack always felt like my home. He had a pretty good life. I’m very fortunate because he was my friend.

Early career

Born in 1933, Lily moved from Texas to Los Angeles as a child, and was first introduced to the industry when her father entered the business of renting horses from a film studio.

Lily started out as a Western stuntman due to a horse and cow background, working as a double photo of actor Victor French before expanding his on-screen career.

His name has over 280 credits and combined with nearly 90 acting credits between television and film, Lily appeared in many different roles in “Little House” throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Almost 20 years after the show ended, Gilbert reunited with Lily on an ABC pilot called “Then Come Jones.”

“My first day on set was surreal, I put on my hair and makeup, dressed, covered in corsets, boots, etc. That strange deja vu.”

“Then I walked over to the set itself. Before I could concentrate, I heard the familiar cry of voice. It was Jack. He was our Wrangler on that pilot. At that moment I knew I was home.”

Other notable Lily credits include Sunder Impact (1983), Young Guns (1988), Planet of the Apes (2001), and The Legend of Zorro (2005).

His final screen appearance was in the 2022 film No no Name and Dynamate Davenport.

Lily is survived by her sons Clay, Clint and Ben, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His wife, Irene, passed away in May 2024 at 95.
