Reel Talk: Catch Redfish in Tampa Bay

Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – Redfish bites are hot right now, and will be in the coming months!

When targeting redfish, it’s best to start looking for mullet schools. Look at the islands and grass flats for jumps and borett schools.

If set up quietly, cut baiting is the easiest way to go now, but the water temperature is still cool.

Do it by a cut pinfish or chunked ladyfish. They smell good, so such a redfish. They are also bottom feeders, so cutting the food that sits at the bottom works well.

Long casting is important, and it is important to move the water around flat islands and islands of grass.

Banana no sport fishing captain Ryan Harrington said it would be best to sit with the rod in the rod holder. He said if you have a rod, you tend to move it and drag it in.

They are beautiful fish in a variety of colours.

The colour of their tails changes based on what they eat. Change the tail to metal blue as more crabs and crustaceans turn their tails and fish and shrimp give them a more red colour.

The color of their bodies will change brighter or darker depending on whether they are clear blue water or dark tannin water.

If you’re catching them, send a picture of the Redfish to Amanda Holly!
