Hours before the scheduled call on Wednesday, Ukrainian officials alleged that Russians were violating an already limited ceasefire halt energy sector attack.
President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Voldy Zelensky spoke on the phone Wednesday morning as Trump worked to mediate peace between Ukraine and Russia.
The call was the day after President Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and they discussed a 30-day ceasefire in which Russia and Ukraine agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy sites.
Following that Tuesday’s call, the Kremlin said Putin had given immediate orders to stop the new Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy sector.
Hours before his call with Washington on Wednesday, Zelenkie insisted that Russian troops were already in decline.
Speaking at a press conference in Finland, Zelensky said Russian troops launched around 150 attack drones towards Ukraine just hours after Trump finished his call with Putin. He said these Russian attack drones targeted Ukrainian energy sites, transportation systems and hospitals.
Russian officials alleged that Ukrainian forces targeted an oil transport site in Russia’s Krasnodar region on Wednesday, setting oil tanks on fire.
Following Trump and Putin’s call on Tuesday, the White House said the next round of negotiations would involve a ceasefire at sea, a more comprehensive ceasefire and ultimately lasting peace.
“These negotiations will begin soon in the Middle East,” the White House said Tuesday.
This is a developing story and will be updated with additional details.
