Trump avoids closure and signs funding the government for six months

Several Democrats joined Republicans, supporting the bill and funding the government throughout the end of the fiscal year.

On March 15, President Donald Trump signed a bill that would fund the government until the end of September, avoiding the looming threat of government shutdown.

In a post on Social Platform X, White House Principal Harrison Fields said on Saturday that “@Pothos signed the CR” or continued solution.

The law continues to change government funding and continue to change, primarily at levels set during the Biden administration. Defense spending has increased by about $6 billion, reducing non-defense spending by about $13 billion, and making minor changes to the nearly $1.7 trillion package.

The Senate voted between 54 and 46 votes on Friday to pass the bill hours before the funding deadline. A small number of Democrats voted to move the bill forward earlier in the day, while Officers Jeanne Shaheen (DN.H.) and Angus King (I-Vt.) supported the final passage. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY.), the only Republican to vote against the bill, cited budget concerns.
Senate Democrats have been accusing House Republicans of whether to support the bill or force a shutdown for several days, accusing them of inheriting fundraising laws without putting them in. The House passed a version of the bill on March 11 with 217-213 votes.
Protests broke out in the office of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) after some House Democrats urged Senate colleagues to reject the bill and announced on Thursday he would vote to prevent the closure and call it the best of multiple bad options. Previously, he opposed the bill and said Republicans don’t have enough votes to pass it.

Four proposed amendments to the law include one cutting funds over 30 days prior to its final passage in the Senate, and another person implementing certain Doge recommendations.

The 11 Democrats who joined Republicans to advance the action in previous procedural votes are Schumer, Senate minority Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Catherine Cortez-Masto (DN.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Gary Peters (D-Mich), Maggie Hassan Gillibrand (Dn.Y.), John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Shaheen and King.

In his true social platform post, Trump congratulated Schumer for doing the right thing: ‘Commander’ and courage! “I congratulated you.

“We all need to cooperate in that very dangerous situation. Non-pass is a rural destroyer, and recognition takes us to new heights. Again, a really good and clever move by Senator Schumer,” Trump added.

Joseph Lord, Jackson Richman, Arjun Singh, and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
