The 38-year-old is best known for his role as Drake in the 2000s teen sitcom Drake and Josh.
Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell revealed the intense scrutiny he faced as a young actor navigating Hollywood, highlighting the pressure he grew up in the spotlight.
Bell, 38, best known for his role in the 2000s comedy Drake & Josh, recalled how the media often misrepresented his actions, leading to public misconceptions about his actions.
“You’re walking with friends and traveling outside Chateau Marmont on your way to the taco shop. The next day, “Drake Bell stumbles drunk from Chateau Marmont,” Bell said. “You said, “There was a crack! I tripped on the sidewalk! “It always just emphasizes every misstep of yours. โ
He noted that public scrutiny can be challenging for any celebrities, but the impact will be particularly profound for young entertainers who are still thinking about their lives.
“Of course, when you become an adult, it still has an effect, but when you are trying to find life in this adolescence, and then suddenly, “Why every time?”
Bell, who gained fame alongside co-star Josh Peck, has expressed his relief that his time as a Nickelodeon star preceded the era of social media domination. He acknowledged the additional pressures modern child actors face due to the immediate and constant comparisons made possible by platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and X.
“We didn’t need to compare. Why did Josh have more followers than he did on Instagram? Oh, Josh got what he liked more in his photos than I posted. What should I do?” he said. “I’m so glad we didn’t have to get through it.”
Bell was also open about the personal difficulties he faced, including the lasting effects of childhood abuse. In the 2023 Docusary, in “Silent on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” he revealed that he was sexually abused by former dialogue coach Brian Peck while working as a child actor. Despite the trauma, Bell says his passion for entertainment has helped him move forward.
“I’ve just become focused, happy, healthy and I’m getting my mind away from the devil. They’re always there, but I’m trying to be positive, not living, and keep people around you around you, and that’s what I really got,” he said.
