TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Just like this spring break season, there are massive great white sharks coming down the coast of Florida.
“dold” weighs 761 pounds over 11 feet, according to Oceanarch, a site that charts sharks as they move up and down the US East Coast.
A large male white shark has been discovered off the east coast of Florida
It was just a few miles from the coast of Vero Beach on Tuesday morning. Researchers began tracking sub-adult white sharks on February 28, about 45 miles off the coast of the Florida Georgia State Line.
The shark was named Dold after Dr. Christopher Dold, Chief Zoology Director at Seaworld.
Dold is part of the Ocean Western North Atlantic Shark Study.
“Tracking Dold gives us deeper insight into white sharks’ role in maintaining migration, health, and marine balance,” the researchers write.
According to NOAA, great white sharks can grow up to 21 feet and 4,500 pounds. They can live more than 70 years ago.
