Indian Rocks Beach, Fla. (WFLA) – On Saturday, the Pinellas County Arts Center is holding an art show working to rebuild from the hurricane.
It is called the “art of renewal.”
After the hurricane, the Beach Arts Center in Indian Rocks Beach took on almost four feet of water.
Inside, they still don’t have all the walls.
Through this show, they want to bring the arts and the community to life.
“I live here in Indian Rocks Beach, so I had to walk and ride with the truck because there was so much mud on Gulf Boulevard and the toilet cleaner that was clogged in the door.
The centre still has a way to go before it turns out to be like it used to be, but it’s still a space where artwork is displayed.
“This is a kind of way to express what you’re going through,” said artist Patrick Ward.
All weekend shows are about updates.
“We call this show an “update.” We are taking steps to get permission now and will remain in the structure we are rebuilding. We’re trying, but we’re very hard and hope to get permission for them to build and fill these holes soon,” Bond said.
“Everyone is affected by the hurricane, so I think the update show will only be able to show you your work even though we are in raw state, but it just shows where we are, but we have been updated and show how things go on,” Roberta Romeo said.
Artist Roberta Romeo said creating art is therapeutic throughout these stressful times.
“It’s just that I can get out of the hurricane, off the to-do list, and I have to put my permits and everything along with the contractor,” she said. “I’m going crazy for a short time of fun, relaxing and doing creative things.”
Patrick Ward spent 45 years as an engineer, six of whom served in the Navy country.
He and his wife are damaged through the storm and want his artwork to reflect the themes of everyone who returns.
One of his paintings on display shows Hermit Crabs reusing the shell.
“There were a lot of them, they came together, they all went up a step up and I thought it was like a beach arts centre, they had to reuse,” he said.
The art community is embracing what they have experienced and moving forward one brush stroke at a time.
The show will be held on Saturday, March 8th from 5pm to 9pm at the Beach Arts Centre. It’s free and anyone can participate.
