MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – Cutter Northland crews of the U.S. Coast Guard offloaded an estimated $20.1 million worth of cocaine and marijuana at Coast Guard base Miami Beach on Wednesday.
The USCG seized about 2,220 pounds of cocaine and 3,320 pounds of marijuana.
The seized drugs were the result of four engagements in the Caribbean by the crew of HMCS William Hall and HNLMS Friesland, with the separation of Coast Guard law enforcement.
“It’s a team effort to stop harmful and illegal drugs from reaching our shores and entering our community,” CMDR said. Brian Gismavik, commander of the Northland Coast Guard cutter. “A dynamic maritime environment requires the effort of our joint force DOD, DHS and international partners to combat cross-border criminal organizations.”
According to the USCG, Key West’s Interagency Task Force South is conducting detection and monitoring of the air and maritime transport of illegal drugs.
