PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WFLA) – Two people are in custody and another warrant is issued after a shooting in a parking lot at Port Charlotte Walmart on Saturday.
At 3 p.m., the suspect was reported to have fired several shots at someone in the Walmart parking lot in Murdoch Circle.
A major crime detective said he spoke to the victim at the scene. He told them he and his girlfriend were shopping in the store as the suspect and others approached them.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Anthony Mojica, 20.
The CCSO told authorities that the victim told the authorities that he and Mozika had previously disagreements and that the 20-year-old had “had it” for him ever since.
He also said that when Mozika approached him, he flashed the firearm with his waistband and said, “You know what time it was.”
At that point, the victim and his girlfriend decided to leave the store.
In the parking lot, detectives said the victim recounted how the blue Toyota 4 runner pulled next to them, and that Mojika, 16, accompanied him, popped out.
Detectives said the pair chased the victim before returning to the car.
Authorities say Mozica fired around six shots at the victim from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Detectives said the victim was unharmed, but bystanders were struck by pieces from the wall where the bullet hits them.
She was not suffered from any physical injuries.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has reviewed security footage from the store.
Deputies find a blue 4runner in the driveway of Leiva’s house, but upon arrival, Mojika and Leva see the marked vehicle and flee the residence.
The 16-year-old was at home and was taken away for questions. Leiba was soon found at a nearby gas station and was taken to ask questions, deputies said.
Detectives said the accounts of 16-year-old Leiba in the case were inconsistent with events shown on surveillance video.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrested the pair on suspicion of involvement in the case and charged accessory with Leiba after the fact that it was a second felony.
The CCSO also charged the 16-year-old with simple assault, a misdemeanor.
A warrant was issued against Anthony Mojica for worsening assault, worsening batteries, shooting into a building and ejecting firearms within 1,000 feet of a person.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts will be asked to contact the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at 941-639-2101.
