One of Osceola County’s “longest and most cherished traditions” returns this weekend, captivating the community with bull tapping and fast-paced horseback riding.
The 156th Annual Silver Spurs Rodeo will be held in Kissimmee this weekend, bringing families to seven classic rodeo events: bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, team roping, tie-down roping and steer wrestling. Dating back to 1944, the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi River celebrates the legacy of farming at Osceola Heritage Park with three nights of events Friday through Sunday.
What began as a way to support the efforts of the U.S. military fighting World War II has evolved into a civic organization of more than 300 members.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve a club that has shaped the heart of Osceola County for 85 years. Our rodeo was built by volunteers who believed that hard work, generosity and community can change lives, and that purpose still guides us today,” Rodeo Big Boss Kay Whaley said in a news release. “We remain committed to preserving the traditions that make Silver Spurs Rodeo a cornerstone of our hometown while supporting the nonprofit organizations, youth programs, and families we proudly serve. It is an honor to help continue the tradition that belongs to all of us.”
At the rodeo, which begins Friday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., fans can watch the Silver Spurs Quadrille team square dance on horseback and enjoy rodeo clowning in between traditional events.

As a philanthropic organization, the Silver Spurs Riding Club donates proceeds from ticket sales to support nonprofit organizations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Midwife Bus, education-related programs such as the Osceola County School District SMART Bus, teacher and school-related Employee of the Year awards, and more.
